I wrote a few days ago about Google hosting terabytes of scientific data for free. But its not all sunshine and lollipops for scientific data, a recent Op-Ed piece in the New York Times by Andrew Vickers some of the most important data, that of cancer studies, is not being shared as readily as one would like.

Its not all doom and gloom though, a consortium has announced the 1000 Genomes Project, an initiative to sequence the genomes of at least 1,000 people to create a detailed picture of genetic variation.

If you’re, on the other hand, up for a little controversy, UK regulators have recently given scientists the green light to create human-animal hybrid embryos for research, and while not directly related to scientific discovery the FDA has given the A-OK to consume cloned animals.
