I’m not generally a forgetful person, but I find that reminders help me a lot to make sure I do things that I want to do, so for the past few weeks I’ve been looking at sites that will help me with this task. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to blog every day, and so I’ve started using a service that sends me an e-mail every day reminding me to blog(in addition to tracking my goal at Joe’s Goals). The service is Go Ping Me, and its amazing if you need a reminder to do certain things, like blog, or pick someone up at a certain time, or any number of things.
You can get the reminder by e-mail, twitter, or even to your cell phone via text message.
There are certain things that I want to know about though that can’t just be set up as reminders. Thats where RSS alerts come in.
Tons of people use RSS readers now, and I’ve stumbled upon a couple of services that make them even more useful for things. The first is Totally Scored, this service lets you set up an RSS feed that sends you the scores from any sports team that you select as an RSS alert after every game. Its infinitely useful for the occasional fan who just wants to know that scores of the game(not necessarily right away) and don’t want to bothered with remembering to check their favourite sports site every day.
If you’re interested in music, DVDs, or movies, services are available to alert you when your favourite music artist announces the release of a new album from Music Alerts, and movies.go.com offers several RSS feeds that including announcements of new movies that just opened in theaters, upcoming movies, new DVD releases, and a few others that don’t keep you as up to date on new openings.
Finally, the site I found most recently is Orangutag. This site allows you to create an RSS feed of shows that you watch and will send an RSS alert every time one of those shows is about to premier a new episode, with the TV strike in full force this site is even more useful as you’re sure not to miss when a show comes back from hiatus. In addition to this feature, the site allows you to catalog episodes that you’ve watched so you can make sure that you’ve seen all the episodes available for everything you like to watch. I’m terrible at making sure I watch the shows I like every time they’re new, so this service is amazing for me.
All these things have made remembering things much easier for me, I hope they work for you too.
