If you’re not into the whole betting thing I talk about a few posts ago, but you still really like predicting things I’ve stumbled on a pretty cool site called GuessNow.com.

Basically you sign up and predict future events which are assigned a point value. When the event passes, if you guessed right you get that number of points. At the end of the month they take their total prize pool, divide it by the number of awarded points and then if your total points are worth $25 or more they pay you. Its free to play, and if you don’t have enough money to cash out that month the points roll over.

They also have a bonus prize pool thats based or your accuracy, and you get more points for what they call friction, where you bet against the majority and get it right.

They can do this friction thing because like any good Web 2.0 site they have a community in which they share answers(no friending though), and a leaderboard.

Finally they have a confidence level feature, for every guess that you make you can assign it a confidence level, if you’re very confident in your answer you get a lot more points if you’re right, but a lot less points if you’re wrong.

Note that to receive cash you need to scan them one of the following things:

  1. A federally issued US or Canadian ID (such as a drivers license)
  2. A US or Canadian Passport
  3. A completed 1099 form (click here).

So if you’re weary, you may not be able to sign up.

They, like most places of this nature, give bonus points for signing up for deals from other sites(and for answering old questions of all things), and for referrals(I’m Shaudius on the site if you’re interested).

Here’s an example of some questions on their sports page:

Overall, I think its an interest concept, and you get that smug sense of satisfaction of knowing you’re right and having the proof. I’ve used it off and on for awhile, but haven’t sent them a form of ID, because I too am weary, I may send it soon though. If you’d have a bad experience with GuessNow, let me know, I’d be interested to hear other people’s takes on the site.
