Unless you’re either living either under a rock or in a country other than the United States, you know tonight is the Iowa caucus, the first ‘vote’ in the lead-up to the Presidential election, and depending on the election year, one of the most important votes to decide the next President of the United States. I won’t pretend to be an expert on the caucus itself, but I have been reading a fair bit about it lately.
Chuck Todd of NBC has a nice article about what exactly the caucus means for each of the candidates in the race. For those unfamiliar with how the whole process works, CNN has an interesting article about it here. Finally, Gallup has a great little video about the influence of Iowa and New Hampshire on the polling of several previous elections cycles to put the votes tonight and Tuesday in some sort of context.
Those three articles together should give a great primer on this unique aspect of American politics.
