One of my favourite websites, that I shockingly haven’t blogged solely about before, is Streamy. When the initial buzz about Streamy hit, there was a lot of hoopla about it comparing it to Digg(from TechCrunch of course, which compares everything to Digg, I also find it hard to not use it as a reference point because its so well known). The following week TechCrunch posted a story saying that it was nothing like Digg, and giving a pretty good review of the then features. Streamy for its part, posted a blog entry on their blog about why they don’t intend to kill Digg.
This was all almost five months ago at this point, and all has been quiet over at Streamy. This quietness even prompting another blog entry by Streamy.
I’ve had the opportunity to test Streamy over the last few months, and I love it. I’m going to avoid a full review of the site for now, and wait a couple weeks on that. I will, however, comment on the quietness. As of a couple days ago the site only had about 1200 people or so, a relatively modest number, and the communicative interaction one has with people who aren’t your friends is relatively limited at this point(unless they join a chatroom for a group you two share, or add them as a friend). You can browse people’s saves(like del.icio.us bookmarks) if they aren’t your friend and thats about it. So to use the service best, its best to have a ton of friends on the site.
Streamy has hopefully done something to help with this problem. In the past, Streamy has severely limited its invites, with each new user getting two. This all changed last night, with every currently active user getting five invites, and all new invitees getting five invites as well.
This increase from two to five will hopefully generate a ton more traffic for the site, and let more people who want to experience it do so.
Which is another reason I’m writing this entry, if you’re interested in trying out Streamy, let me know, and I’ll do my best to invite some people, all that I ask is that you actively use the site and invite more people to make the community grow.
When they handed the invites out last night at around midnight EST, the community response was amazing, I’ve never seen more people in the beta testers chat room, and I’d like to keep it that way.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’ve been waiting for an age to hear from Streamy. I registered for the beta way back, I check the site once in a while but the lack of updates and the lack of discussion about it in the usual places made me wonder whether it was dead in the water. I’m glad to hear it’s still going.
If anyone has a spare invitation I’d be very grateful:)
If you still have invites, I would like one.
I’ve been waiting to try it since day one. If you’ve got invites I’d love one.
Thanks
Invites sent out, if anyone else wants one just let me know.
