So Streamy was down for awhile a couple days ago for an upgrade, so I decided to do some searching to find out if anyone has written about it(no one had), and in my searching I had the idea of looking for applications on Facebook that had to do with sharing and RSS.
It was though this searching that I found a really neat app. The app is called Feed Friend RSS, and its a cool way to display your blog’s feed directly on your Facebook profile. The process is pretty simple, you just type in your blog’s feed URL and the application does the rest.
This is really a neat way to advertise your blog. Not only does it provide a good way for any of your friends to quickly see your feed while Facebook stalking you, but also the world at large if you give the app the option to display your feed to the world. I’m always looking for interesting ways to integrate the various programs that I use, and this is a pretty cool one. Here’s some screenshots showing what the application looks like and a bevy of the options available for its display on your profile:
Overall its a very neat concept with the ability to have any new blog posts you post displayed in the mini-feed of your friends. Its something I wouldn’t use as an all purpose Feedreader(with that option set anyway, to avoid spam). For personal blogging it doesn’t offer much beyond the already existing notes application, which allows you to import your external blog posts, and has several nice features like tagging of friends in note, but Facebook’s notes application is of course limited to being visible to whoever can see your profile, as no global display feature exists.
Feed Friend RSS does allow you to publish multiple blogs and display them all, instead of just one, unlike Facebook’s notes importation which is limited to one, a feature that may be important to a certain subset of the blogosphere.
As of the time of this writing, the application has approximately 1500 installations, a relatively small number for a Facebook app, but the functionality that it offers doesn’t have the wide appeal that something like a Top Friends, or Superpoke! does. That being said, if you’re in the niche area it serves, its worth checking out.
